End of chapter 7 - I'm sorry for the comic being dead lately. I had this page lying around for a while, but didn't scan it. I've been focusing lately on studying more art techniques (Plus my horrible job) rather than drawing comics, so I still haven't gotten around to writing the script for chapter 8.

The truth is that recently I've been starting to have doubts about the future of this comic. I'm not sure I like the direction it's taking, or if there's even a point to keep making it.
There was some time when I thought that maybe I could get something published, but soon enough I realized that I'm not nearly good enough. So I'm a bit discouraged right now, lol.

I don't really want to end this comic, but I'm not sure what to do with it. I thought about restarting the whole thing, but it's not like it's that horrible (for a webcomic posted on SmackJeeves at least), and it would be a shame to do that after so many pages. Maybe I'll just redraw chapter one and two, but I'm not sure about that either.
I'll be putting the comic on hold until I decide what to do about it. Sorry!

I've been reading since the previous website

Please Please I beg of you not to stop this webcomic. I adore it, truly I do. It's one of the few I enjoy and look forwards to reading when it updates.

The direction it seems to give me is that he's out to look for his father to find the truth about him and his past. To figure out why he lost his memories and where his mother went. The pendent is a gift from her, but why does he have it.

That is what I can gather from what you've shown us.

It's a wonderful webcomic that many love so please do not end it here. You would make us all very very sad.

But the ultimate decision is yours I suppose.

Please choose the answer that is right for you.

... The hell?

This is an awesome comic! The story is interesting and cool, the art is fantastic, and, overall, one of my favorite comics in general. And your stuff, in my opinion, is extremely publishable(sp?).

I would, and many others, will be very sad if you cancel it. But it's your work, so you can do what you wish with it. But if you want to stop working on it, then can you atleast keep the oringinal comics up, please?

Thank you for reading that.

But this is for sure one of my favorites, if the not THE favorite, comic I've been reading! The characters are lovable, the story is well-paced and exciting, and the art is simply amazing. I really see no reason why you couldn't publish it. I know I'd buy it:) I'm sorry you're feeling discouraged, and if there's anything I can do let me know. And like everyone else said, you do what YOU want to do. I'll just ask you keep going with this comic.

Surely it's pretty kickass for a SJ comic, you can't stop it.
Sure, maybe it's not heading where you thought it would, but is that necessarily a bad thing? Maybe it's changing for the best. Just ask us, the fans. Are we not hooked? Are we not whining you're gonna end it?

There's a balance between what you want to do and what the public wants to see. The ideal is to have a perfect balance between the two of them, but that's very hard to get. So far, even though it's drifting from what you want to draw, it's really up there in the what we want to see scale.

You're going through a crisis, and that's ok, we all have them, just don't act out of anxiety or panic, cool your head and decide what's best. Just know that we love and will always love this comic.

  Don't stop it

Just because maybe you may not publish it, you should stop doing it. Its great and extremely beneficial for your art career to continue studying art techniques. This means you want to get better and will get better. Thus producing a better quality comic. I've drawn and redrawn comics, and I find that I won't finish them or worse, I am unable to start anything else because at the back of my mind, I know that comic needs to be finished because its something incomplete. And there's no worse feeling for an artist than an incomplete work with so much time invested. I'm willing to wait for updates, but really, if you are not considering publishing this, use this as practice for future comics. Practice the techniques and story creation ideas on this one. Get in the habit of finishing and you never know, you may like the direction. Remember also that an artist/writer is her/his own worse critic. You're at that point where you love what you've been doing, but you think that your ideas are stupid and don't do that to yourself because you'll drive yourself crazy. Finish what you started. That's the point of this really long post lol.

DON'T DO IT D:

I don't think it's possible for me to urge/beg you enough not to quit this comic. Please! It's by far and away my favourite comic on any site, let alone the couple dozen-or-so I've been watching on SJ here. Maaaybe it's not going the same direction you thought it'd be going at first- is that so bad? Sometimes storylines change as time goes on, and sometimes it's for the best- but if it's something you're truly not comfortable with, you can be damned sure your loyal fanbase will support you in any alterations or changes you feel necessary. Just, please. Don't kill it completely? I haven't been this excited about a comic since I discovered the Flight chronicles... which brings me to the point that your work is absolutely publishing material. I'm in absolute love with your style, and how expressive your characters are; besides, your style has only improved as the comic progressed. Every page is great practice for techniques and plotting, and I think they can only help to improve you even further. Critiquing is a harsh process, but I can assure you that you're being much harder on yourself than any of us agree with.

We are hooked, line and sinker, on everything you do here. And we support you no matter what. <3

  LISTEN

I love this comic so much! Dont stop writing it!Your art is so good. Not many people can draw good and you can. Lighten up on yourself. It may be hard work, but that doesn't mean you aren't good at it.You don't have to redraw it. It is great the way it is. Just keep writing the comic. It's so much better than you think! Out of all my favorites this is one of them that I look forward to the most!Come on! I know it's probably hard to decide what to do, but I want you to know that if you choose to change it or discontinue it or keep it I'm with you and I support whatever descision you make. But it is really important that you know your art is good. There is no need to beat yourself up about it because it can only make the way you feel worse. Everyone has hard times and everyone feels discouraged about one thing or another. But you are who you are and your comics are amazing. Don't let anyone or anything get you down. If you need a break then you take it. Don't restart this comic just for us. If you restart it restart it for you. You need to put yourself first sometimes. It's very important. I would get your comic if it was published. And from what I read most of your other friends would too. So don't beat up on yourself. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't good. You know that. Just listen to your heart and do what you thing is right for this comic. We support you.

Lemme tell you this much:
If this was published,I'd definetely buy it! Your art is AMAZING the the storyline is really interesting! This comic is perfect and I love it,so please don't pause/restart/delete it!

1.) This comic is fantastic. I very much DO NOT want you to stop working on it, but if you do completely lose passion for it, then I understand your decision, even if it makes me unhappy. :/
2.) You ARE good enough to get published. I'm sure of it. Who all have you sent work too? I know you've tried Tokyopop, but have you tried Del Rey, Yen Press, or Slavelabor? (Slavelabor doesn't pay page rates, only royalties but hey, a start is a start.) And I'm sure there are others out there. Don't give up. You have what it takes to make a great comic book artist: Intriguing writing and characters, innovative perspective in panels, and a good sense of visual storytelling. The ONLY thing in your art that ever wavers is your anatomy, but your flaws are so minor that they would be overcome in no time while working with a professional editor. You truly have a marvelous talent, so please don't give up on it. =] I am another who would run out and buy ANY book of yours the minute it was published.

I've been reading this comic for so long(even before you posted it up in SJ!). I practically grew up with it, and has remained one of my favorite comics through out the years. You have been such an inspiration as a comic artist and inker, and i always turn to your stuff when I'm feeling down or in need of amazing paneling and action sequences. You MUST know the following you have aquired, and know that we all love your characters as if they were friends we've had for years. Atleast thats how I feel. If i didnt get to see how Ren's story ended, if he was happy or not, then i would be very sad. Here is a character that i wanna continue to watch grow and learn, and have adventures that we can only dream of. In the end, this will be of course your descicion, but i beg of you to think about us too a little bit.

You're an excellent artist, never doubt it, and if in the end you decide to discontinue it, we'll be sad, but we'll of course support you and any future choices you make.:3 Think carefully please.

please don't stop working on it. This is the first comic I ever read on Smackjeeves and it is the reason I first started coming back to this website. Its still one of my all time favorite comics, and I'd be really sad to see it go. I know you've been working on it for a long time now, but your art is still fantastic and you have a very loyal reader base. Which is no mean feat to achieve! It'd be a real shame to see it go. But if you feel you just can't work on it anymore then you shouldn't. Don't force yourself. I hope you feel you'll be able to continue though.

Heck, I'd buy this in book form if you published it. There's lower-quality stuff on the shelves at Barnes and Noble right now. :S

Even if you don't, please don't stop working on it. This is one of the best comics on Smackjeeves, I think, and it's definitely one of my personal favorites.

  The Voice of Experience

I don't like to post much on webcomic forums because I am a visual literature critic, and I usually reserve my words for the reviews I write for newspapers, magazines, etc. However, I feel that I have to speak up in light of your most recent post.

DO NOT STOP MAKING THIS COMIC.

Frankly I am baffled at your reaction to your own work - in both literary and visual aspects. Your artistic style and techniques are wonderful, charismatic, and original. I can see the canonized works from which you take inspiration from, but unlike some, you create your own style from that inspiration rather than direct style-copying.

Your characters, setting, and storyline are magical and unique, yet you never fail to adhere to key design aspects that keep everything going - your characters have personality, depth, and are never boring. Your plot is dynamic and exciting, yet a perfect mix of ambiguity and information to keep the reader just enough in the know to keep up but not know what's coming next, perpetuating their interest practically forever.

On top of that, you're really pushing the innovation factor when it comes to your set up of gender roles and age/power dynamics. There are very few comics I have seen successfully do what you're doing with these, and that's really saying something.

There is no doubt in my mind that there are other comics and manga in print and on store shelves at this very moment that aren't as spectacular as Resonance. I have seen many, MANY, works in the same field as yours, and I am not afraid to say that I read your comic because I enjoy it, and I have done so for a very long time. I would hate to review your work as part of my job because I would feel it would completely ruin the connection I have with it. Do you know what I mean?

Anywho, I just felt compelled to express my opinion on the premature conclusion of this webcomic. It is no doubt one of my favorites, and losing it would be like losing a dear friend early in life. I'm sure many if not all of your fellow devoted readers will agree with me when I say that, if there is anything we can do to persuade you to keep this wonderful piece of art going, just let us know.

Well

Many people have been telling you their opinion, and I really think you should do whatever you want to to with the comic.

I don't mind what the decision comes to, because in the end, it's pretty much your judgment. Although I do enjoy this comic, I do get what your saying about the tangent direction thing.

So go on, do what you want!

  Another opinion...

Or just the same opinion...

You should do whatever is best for you, and whatever that is I hope that it includes some kind of online presence (preferably a webcomic and specifically the continuation of Resonance). However much you criticize your art or story I still have enjoyed reading Resonance. It would be nice see what the rest of the story holds for Ren and the other characters, but if continuing the story is not what you decide to do I will still eagerly await your future projects.

no need to redo anything, its great like it is.
anyway i personally like being able to see peoples art improve as their comic prgresses.
also if you dont like the direction the comic is heading, then just change it, it doesnt really matter what other people think if you want to change things.

The biggest mistake you can make in this situation is basing your opinion of the quality of your work off of what people in the professional world say about it. People in the publishing business have a tendency not to know a good comic from a piece of salami. Many great works of literature were initially dismissed by the publisher, or were barely accepted.

If you're going to gauge the quality of your comic based on public opinion, take it from the fans who have read it at their leisure and had an opportunity to appreciate its nuances. They're the ones who grasp the core of what you want to say with the comic, while critics and publishers barely have time to figure out what the plot of the work is, much less its deeper meaning.

These are the longest and most detailed comments I've seen from any fanbase in all my history of reading comics, especially from a comic that has gone through many delays, hiatuses, and even a complete death of the original site. That's dedication. If you have fans like this, why the heck do you care about what some publisher has to say?

Regardless of what you decide to do, I hope you will keep producing comics. You've got an art-stalker in me, if not in most of your fans.

Allright I bet I'm going to say something that's already been said, but what the hell.
First off, this is an amazing comic! I'm surprised that you can't get it published, I've read worse comics that even had lousy art, and they were published. This is definitely one of my favorites, right up there with Kagerou (electric-manga.com).

If you need a break to study art or just to improve without having to worry about updates, then it's fine. We'll be here when you come back ^^
And if you're tired of drawing and writing this comic, then I guess there's no helping it :( But I kinda like where this story is going, it's as though the story/world is expanding. All of the greatest comics give off this kind of feeling. I guess I don't know what you have planned (or haven't, perhaps? ^^) But I'm sure this is going to be very interesting ^^

Oh I hope you will continue. If you leave me on such a cliff hanger I don't know what I will do. I think you have so much potential! I love your style and it's got such a good manga feel! You think you're not good enough but I've seen some real crap before that is published and I just can't see the appeal. If you were to sell this in stores I'd buy every book just to have as part of my collection. So keep going! Sometimes a lack of motivation can be the door to an explosion of more! :) or at least. that's what I've found out.

  Don't Stop

Mate, this is THE ONLY comic ever that I follow on the web. No other comic apart from Naruto has drawn me so close into it. So don't stop. Or you'll face my wrath ;)
Anyway, i know how ya feel. I re-did my first 2 eps too, because I felt the art wasn't up to the mark. Since you've done SO much...re-doing isn't a good idea. Just go ahead mate...the readers love it, so where's the doubts ?

  DON'T STOP

Please don't stop!! This is the only comic I still read after I left smackjeeves for good!! It's so amazing, and it's really inspiring to see such talent and drive for this story!! It's seriously my favorite!!!

Oh poop

Well, I hope you continue it.

Even if you do get rejected, it's all part of the publishing process. Really, it's tough to get your foot in the door. Even Dr. Seuss got at least 9 rejection letters before getting published.

Keep trying! Get your name out there - networking always helps. It takes time. You got the skills and talent, so don't let this one rejection put you down. Keep it up!

  NO

i wish i could magically inject you with enthusiasm/confidence, because just about went into a cold stupor reading your comment.
This is, for myself and many others, the best webcomic on this site (although, that doesn't really say much) and its one of the few that i actively follow with the passion of a society i thought i was too good for.
you will 100% definitely get published, you just need to go into a bookstore and see all the comics in there which you could beat the crap out of talent-wise.

I've only just found this comic today, and I'm in love with it. I can totally tell how much you've grown and the progress you've made, and it's really awesome. It would be so sad for you to stop with it now, it's just getting interesting!
